8 June 2018 - Perth

This morning we woke up at 7:00.

I made a cup of coffee for the grown ups and started to pack away.  MLW and the YCM went shopping for today’s lunchtime comestibles from the bakery and greengrocer whist I took the tent down and packed the car.

The YCM then walked around the farm saying goodbye to all of the animals, in fact the lambs were visited several times. They’re very soft and friendly, so I can understand why.

We got in the car and headed for Scotland.  On purpose this time. The A68 is a great road.  I could see on the satnav that the Edinburgh ring road was suffering from delays so I chose a route through the city centre which didn’t add much time and gave us a wonderful view of the city and university buildings.  We then crossed the new Forth Bridge. The structure was amazing, very neat cables all down the centre of it.

Soon after we stopped for a break and lunch and a play for the YCM.  Then back in the car and off to Perth.

We arrived at the B&B, unloaded the essentials and MLW and the YCM went to the park whilst I took a week’s worth to the launderette. It turned out that the B&B is very well located for the huge riverside park in Perth. Whilst I was drinking Irn Bru in the launderette, they found a bowls match, the black watch museum and castle and a river bridge.

Late afternoon we walked into town through the park.  Perth seems a really wonderful place, good solid houses with pretty gardens, tree lined avenues (lots of people had painted their railings today), cobbled streets in the centre and many bars and restaurants that looked worth a try.

We went for our tea at Paco’s.  An excellent restaurant with an impressive wood panelled and polished brass interior. They had a massive menu of cocktails so we (all of us!) had those on the warm patio overlooking the theatre square.

We returned via riverside park and watched the locals play ‘paddling pool rounders’ (each base a small pool) and arrived at the play park (anyone notice the theme here?) just as the brownies were leaving. We have now settled in for the evening, and are the special sort of clean you get from an indoor shower.
