4 June 2018 - Oxenhope

What an adventure!

We planned to go down to the village and catch a train on the KVR steam railway.  I was busy putting things in the car when MLW suggested we walk down the ‘footpath’ to Oxenhope.

It’s clear that nobody uses the footpaths around here. There are few sign posts and the stiles are in disrepair.  Still, we made it down to the station in plenty of time to catch our train.

10 minutes later we arrived in Haworth.  We walked through the park up to the Main Street where there was the usual Brontë touristy stuff and some nice shops too.  We got a couple of pasties from a bakers for lunch and sat on a wall to eat them.   All in all a pleasant visit.

On the way back through the park there was time to play on the children’s things, so we did. Caution: the roundabout needs new bearings.

We returned to the railway station where I was dispatched to get some bread and apples and snuck in some G&Ts and some Pimms for MLW.   We caught the train and I missed the journey back as I fell asleep. (We were up at about 5am)

We had a quick look around the exhibition shed at the station and then went to find the bus back up the hill to the campsite.

Apparently the buses stop at 13.50 on a weekday.

We took the direct ascent up the hill, negotiating unclear footpaths and avoiding, with a calm quick walk, a herd of curious bullocks. This was made even more difficult for MLW as the YCM was asleep on her back.

Battling through dodgy stiles and gorse bushes we eventually made it back.  Someone immediately hit the play area. Someone else immediately hit the gin, whilst cooking dinner.

An early night was called for as we had a very early morning.

For anybody who’s interested the CampingGaz ST600 stove has been excellent so far.
