Another travelling day today.
It rained quite heavily overnight and we awoke to a puddle in the porch where the last person in didn’t do the Velcro on the bottom of the door. (Probably me).
As we were mopping up we encountered another midge attack. We dressed and packed up in record time and were away by 9:30. MLW and the YCM did manage to squeeze in a play and explore of the woodlands too.
As we were passing through Balloch we spotted a Co-op. We stopped and enjoyed coffee, pastries and yoghurt for breakfast. Midge free.
Back in the car we went over the impressive Erskine Bridge and passed through Paisley and Kilmarnock to Stranraer and then finally to Leswalt.
The campsite is lovely. Only ten pitches and probably more suited to adults (no play park, and nothing around in an easy walk, its all a couple of miles away). Although, there are only 2 campers here at the moment, and we have been given a double pitch, so there’s plenty of space for a few games. Each pitch is secluded, surrounded by hedges and they are on different levels. As I write I can see the sun setting over the hills that lead to the sea. There is a storm warning for high winds in the next couple of days so we have pitched behind a hedge. It’s certainly chillier here than it has been.
The owners are very attentive and made sure we knew all of the places to visit and where the facilities were.
We took our time putting up the tent as we needed to let it dry out from last night before putting anything inside. We aired all of the bedding before putting it inside. The sun was warm and there was a strong breeze, so excellent drying weather.
After the tent was sorted we went out for a ride to Portpatrick. A pretty harbour town with a lifeboat station. We had a walk around and MLW and the YCM played on the beach making castles and looking in rock pools in the early evening sunshine. There were plenty of reddened faces enjoying a drink on the front so I think the weather has been good for the past day or two.
We started getting hungry so we headed back to the tent. I cooked dinner whilst the ladies had a walk round the campsite.
After dinner the YCM offered to do the washing up so they did that whilst I discovered how much of my clean clothing had got damp last night as my bag was sitting in a puddle and is not, apparently, waterproof. I then hung stuff on the conveniently placed washing line (this is a lovely site) and most of it was dry after the YCM had gone to bed and I’d had a relaxing shower. MLW spent the evening learning how to speak French. There is no internet connection or phone signal so she can’t do her usual catch up of news, Facebook and step count. I’ve had to go for a walk to get this posted.
Tomorrow the beach beckons...
